Registrations by Email Provider

Uber: Count Gmail signups and break down registered users by email provider.

Assignment

You're an analyst on the growth team at Uber. The team is reviewing which email providers new users sign up with, because provider mix affects how well marketing emails get delivered. The first question from the team lead: how many of our registered users signed up with a Gmail address? A breakdown of the other providers would also be useful.

Deliverables

  • The number of registered users with a Gmail address.
  • A breakdown of registered users by email provider.
  • A short closing report for the growth team: your findings, any records that needed a judgment call and what you decided, and anything they should double-check before relying on the numbers.

Data Description

uber_registered_users.csv has one row per registered user:

  • user_id
  • full_name
  • email
  • signup_date
  • city

Practicalities

You can solve this in Python, SQL, or a mix of both — StrataScratch notebooks support both languages in the same notebook.

Assume this data comes directly from the registration system and hasn't been cleaned, so review it carefully before relying on the numbers. When something looks off, work out what it is and decide how to handle it; when a definition or a final decision is genuinely ambiguous, choose a reasonable option and explain why. There's often more than one valid way to compute a result, so explain the approach you take and the reasoning behind your choices.

What's assessed: your results, and how clearly you explain what you see in the data and justify the choices you make.
