Social, media & entertainment MLOps Engineer Interview Loop
MLOps engineer interviews here are about keeping recommendation and personalization models trained, served and monitored. At this scale, an hour of bad recommendations shows up in the business numbers. The loop is the merged MLOps and ML engineering pattern: a coding screen, an ML fundamentals round, an ML system design round, and a production round. It sits inside the company's standard engineering loop, with its culture interview. Interviewers want to see how you reason under limits: scale, latency, cost and reproducibility. Netflix's loop includes its values round, and Spotify's includes stakeholder conversations.
Companies behind this pattern
Practice by round
SQL basics at speed, plus Python concepts asked out loud, like comprehensions, sorted vectors and library dependencies. Keep it clean and quick.
SQL at loop level on session and content tables. Then the database ideas under a pipeline: denormalized tables, WHERE versus HAVING, and how a CTE runs.
Production ML design. You trace the path from raw events to a served recommendation model: computing features, choosing models and ranking, offline and online evaluation, and serving under latency limits. You're scored on whether you name what breaks and how you'd know. The recommendation and ranking design questions on this page show the format.
Enough ML to run it in production: overfitting and regularization, boosted trees versus decision trees, and designing the experiment for an AI streaming feature before a full rollout. Interference comes up too, because here the control group sees what the treatment group's model recommended.
| Question | Difficulty |
|---|---|
| Better Algorithm | Easy |
| Rate a Movie | Easy |
| Regularization | Easy |
| Overfitting While Training Model | Easy |
| Decision Trees and Extreme Boosted Trees | Easy |
