Social, media & entertainment Data Analyst Interview Loop
The data analyst interview here is the data scientist loop with lighter experiments and a bigger product case. There's a recruiter call, then a SQL screen with a product question. After that come three to five interviews: SQL and analysis, a product metrics case, a stakeholder or cross-functional conversation, and culture. What makes it different is the data. It's engagement, content and retention, at a scale where a small change in a metric is a big change for the business. Interviewers want to see you connect a query to what a member actually experiences.
Companies behind this pattern
Practice by round
SQL basics on plays, sessions, follows and content tables: joins, aggregations, distinct counts and grouping by date. Be fluent under time. Then there's one product question, like which metric would tell you a feature is working.
Medium and hard SQL on viewing and review data: flags per video, reviews per star, top artists over twenty years, price of wines by country, and inspections by month. Then you say what you'd tell the content team.
A KPI dropped, or a team wants to know whether a campaign worked. The questions include a framework for investigating a KPI drop, measuring social media campaign success, metrics tracking and new-user engagement. Define the metrics, list the causes, and decide what to check first. Then explain it to a PM or content lead who doesn't write SQL.

Comparing two groups, conversion rate, test length, and whether a factor really predicts an outcome. You won't derive anything. You'll be asked whether a number can be trusted.
