Social, media & entertainment BI Analyst Interview Loop
The BI analyst interview is the least documented one in this industry, and the shape that comes up is the standard BI one. There's a recruiter call, a timed SQL screen, and three to five interviews: a technical round, a reporting case, a hiring-manager or cross-functional round, and culture. What the industry adds is the subject. You report on content performance, engagement, and subscriber and creator metrics, at a scale where how a table is built is a real design choice. Netflix's culture interview and Spotify's focus on communication matter here too. The BI analyst is the person who explains the number to a content executive.
Companies behind this pattern
Practice by round
Joins, aggregations, ranking and date handling on plays, sessions and content tables, all timed. Be clean, quick and correct.
Window functions, CTEs and multi-table joins on viewing and review data, like flags per video, reviews per star and sessions by initial viewers. Then comes the model behind the query.
A launch, a catalog push or a new market needs a report. The questions include a framework for investigating a KPI drop, metrics tracking, daily active users and measuring campaign success. Define the metrics and say what you'd recommend. The cross-functional round is the same case, explained to someone who doesn't write SQL.
