Social, media & entertainment AI Engineer Interview Loop
AI engineering here means recommendation, ranking and search, and more and more generative features on top of them. AI engineer interviews follow the ML engineering pattern. There's a recruiter screen, then a technical screen that mixes ML or LLM concepts with a coding problem. Then come coding, an ML or AI system design round, and a culture round. About a third of roles add a take-home. Netflix's research-facing roles add a coding round on estimators and pipelines under realistic limits. Spotify adds stakeholder conversations. The role isn't standard anywhere yet, so ask the recruiter for the list of rounds.

ML and generative AI basics, asked fast, and no SQL. Expect multi-head attention and why it's scaled by √d, residual connections, layer norm versus batch norm, LLM hallucination, and regularization and overfitting in a ranking model. There's a coding problem too. Give short, correct answers that explain how it works.
| Question | Difficulty |
|---|---|
| Better Algorithm | Easy |
| Rate a Movie | Easy |
| Decision Trees and Extreme Boosted Trees | Easy |
| Changing the Scale of Distance | Easy |
| Fair Die Simulation | Easy |
| Biased Coin Flip Sampling | Easy |
| Maximum Number in Array | Easy |
| Maximum Sum | Easy |
Medium and hard coding, plus the data handling AI systems are built on. That means SQL and Python over streamer, artist and rating tables.
AI system and product design in this industry's terms: a music-streaming recommendation engine, feed ranking, a recommender for a professional network, ads-ranking signals, and recommendation diversity versus engagement. Scope the task and choose between retrieval, ranking and generation. Design offline and online evaluation. Then talk about latency, cost, and the harm a system can do to members and creators.
LLM hallucination, diffusion models, vocabulary space, decision trees versus boosted trees, and A/B testing personalized content when you compare two model versions. Then there's the classical ML that most production ranking still runs on.
