Fintech & payments Data Analyst Interview Loop

31 questions · 4 roundsUpdated October 2026

There isn't one fintech data analyst interview. Fintech companies don't share a structure the way marketplaces or big tech do. Stripe builds its process around a take-home that you present. Block runs a fast, timed SQL and Python round with no take-home at all. PayPal centers on a fraud case. What they share is the domain. All of them will ask about fraud, risk, payment flows or merchant data, and the numbers have real consequences. A false positive blocks a good payment, and a false negative loses money. Prepare for the domain rather than a fixed order of rounds, and read your company's process before the screen.

The SQL basics. What's different in fintech is speed. Block's screen is 30 minutes of SQL, and candidates often say it's too short. Automated rejections after a strong screen are common too. If you're interviewing there, practice against the clock. Elsewhere the screen is more standard.
